California law requires health insurers to establish and support a language assistance program for certain California residents who have limited English proficiency. IAC’s CA LAP provides timely individual access to interpretation services at no cost to its limited English proficient insureds.

Key CA LAP Requirements for Health Care Providers
- Health care providers are required by law to provide interpretation services to their clients upon request.
- Call IAC’s toll-free number, 1-888-524-3629, for information on free interpreter services by telephone, in any language.
- Discourage use of family and friends, especially minors, as interpreters.
- Document a patient’s refusal of interpreter services in his or her medical records.
